Some entrepreneurs are born with an instinct for business — Robert Morcos is one of them. The Founder and CEO of NEXA, a global leader in enterprise mobility solutions, has spent his entire life spotting opportunities others overlook and turning them into scalable ventures.
That drive started early. At just eight years old, Morcos launched his first “company” by recruiting neighborhood kids to help wash cars on weekends. What began as pocket money quickly evolved into a lesson in leadership, delegation, and profit sharing — years before he’d ever heard those terms.
By 15, he was already buying and reselling used cell phones to classmates, teachers, and even his school principal. Working with a friend’s father who refurbished the devices, Morcos exported them to Latin America, discovering the global potential of tech long before smartphones existed.
“I basically had an entire school of people — 1,000 students, teachers, even the principal — selling me phones,” he recalls with a laugh.
His mother, supportive of his growing ventures, would drive him to local pawn shops to buy out their weekly phone inventory. For Morcos, these weren’t just side hustles; they were early chapters in an entrepreneurial journey that would later scale into millions of connected devices worldwide.
Building NEXA: From Startup Experiment to Global Enterprise
After finishing school, Morcos launched Social Mobile, a small software startup built around simplifying social media access on early mobile devices. Like many young companies, it evolved several times before becoming NEXA — a rebranded and reimagined enterprise that now powers mobility infrastructure for Fortune 500 companies.
Today, NEXA manages more than 15 million devices across industries including healthcare, retail, logistics, transportation, defense, and public safety. The company offers a full suite of services: product design, hardware manufacturing, deployment, managed services, and lifecycle management — all customized for global enterprises.
“These are completely different businesses in completely different industries,” Morcos explains. “Yet they face the same fundamental challenges — how to stay connected, efficient, and compliant.”
What sets NEXA apart is its flexibility. Every client receives a fully tailored solution — from device aesthetics (colors, branding, physical design) to specialized software and compliance standards aligned with global regulations.
The company’s portfolio includes handheld devices, tablets, wearables, IoT systems, and other smart hardware engineered for durability and scalability. Its collaborations range from VaxCare — where NEXA built purpose-built vaccine management hardware — to delivery giants like DoorDash, which use NEXA’s devices to optimize operations and field communication.
And remarkably, Morcos has achieved all of this without raising a single dollar of institutional capital.
“We took this company from a startup with no business plan to where it is today — without outside investment,” he says. “We stayed agile, kept pivoting, and made the right decisions.”
Rooted in Miami, Empowering the Next Generation
Despite running a global enterprise, Morcos remains deeply connected to his hometown of Miami. He serves on the board of Junior Achievement, a nonprofit teaching students the fundamentals of entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
“No one ever told me what a balance sheet or P&L was when I was in school,” he says. “Helping kids understand money, credit, and business early on can change their lives.”
That same spirit of giving back extends to NEXA’s community partnerships. The company works closely with Mobile School Pantry, providing groceries and holiday meals for local families. Every Thanksgiving, NEXA helps feed more than a thousand families, reinforcing the company’s culture of empathy and local engagement.
The Power of Networks and Learning from Experience
Morcos attributes much of his continued growth to the power of connection. Since 2016, he’s been an active member of YPO, a global leadership community for top executives and founders.
“Whatever you need, someone in YPO has been there or done that,” he says. “It’s an incredible network — one degree of separation from anyone you need to meet.”
Through YPO, Morcos has gained access to real-world insights from peers who are actively solving business problems at scale. It’s a learning model he prefers far more than traditional consulting.
“There are plenty of consultants who’ll tell you what to do,” he notes. “But hearing directly from someone who’s lived it — that’s invaluable.”
Recognition Through Innovation
Morcos’s achievements haven’t gone unnoticed. In 2023, Google’s Android Enterprise team named him Solution Innovator of the Year, recognizing his company’s ability to push the boundaries of mobile technology. Two years later, he earned the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Florida, solidifying his reputation as one of America’s most forward-thinking tech leaders.
Even as NEXA continues expanding across global markets, Morcos remains grounded in the same principles that shaped his early ventures: independence, curiosity, and persistence.
“I’ve learned to embrace change,” he reflects. “Every pivot we’ve made was an opportunity to grow stronger, smarter, and more resilient.”
