Spotify is expanding access to its latest AI-driven playlist tool, giving users in the United States and Canada a new way to build playlists using simple text prompts. The feature, called Prompted Playlist, lets listeners describe a mood, activity, or musical idea and instantly receive a curated playlist that reflects that input.

The company quietly began testing the tool toward the end of last year, initially offering it to Spotify Premium users in New Zealand. With positive feedback from early testers, Spotify is now rolling out the feature across North America, making it available to a much larger audience.

Unlike Spotify’s earlier AI playlist experiments introduced in 2024, this version allows for more detailed and conversational prompts. Users can tweak results by adding follow up instructions, refining the vibe, or steering the playlist in a new direction without starting over. The system also pulls heavily from each listener’s personal streaming history, helping the recommendations feel more familiar and tailored.

Spotify says the Prompted Playlist feature relies on real time insights from the wider music landscape. This includes current trends, chart data, cultural context, and genre history, combined with everything the user has listened to since joining the platform. The result is a playlist that blends personal taste with what is happening across the music world right now.

Another notable addition is the option to keep playlists fresh automatically. Users can choose to have their generated playlists update daily or weekly, allowing new tracks to rotate in over time. Each song also comes with a short explanation that outlines why it was selected, offering more transparency into how the recommendations are formed.

To try the feature, users can open Spotify and tap the Create menu, where the new Prompted Playlist option now appears. After entering a prompt, Spotify generates a playlist within seconds. For those unsure where to start, the app highlights sample prompts on the home screen, created by Spotify’s in house music editors and culture specialists. There is also an Ideas section that suggests prompt styles and themes.

Sharing playlists is built into the experience as well. When a Prompted Playlist is shared with friends, Spotify adapts it to match each listener’s taste individually. This means two people opening the same shared playlist may see slightly different song selections based on their listening habits.

The rollout is still labeled as a beta release, and access is limited to Spotify Premium subscribers in the US and Canada. Spotify notes that the feature is being introduced gradually, with full availability expected by the end of the month. Usage limits may apply during this testing phase as the company continues to refine how the system works.

Spotify has emphasized that Prompted Playlist will continue to evolve based on real world usage and feedback. As the company experiments with more advanced AI powered tools, this feature represents another step toward giving listeners greater control over how music is discovered and organized on the platform.
