Google is expanding the role of its Gemini AI by turning it into a practical study companion for students preparing for major exams. The company has announced that Gemini can now generate full-length SAT mock tests at no cost, giving learners an alternative to paid prep courses and private tutoring.
The new feature was unveiled during the BETT 2026 education conference and allows students to take realistic SAT practice exams directly inside Gemini. Instead of offering isolated practice questions, the tool is designed to replicate the flow and structure of the actual test, helping users get comfortable with both timing and format.
Unlike many AI tools that create random questions on demand, Gemini’s SAT exams follow a standardized layout similar to the real assessment. Google says the goal is to recreate the pressure and pacing students experience on test day, rather than offering casual quizzes that fail to reflect real conditions.

According to Google, the mock exams are developed using material from trusted education partners such as The Princeton Review, ensuring that question difficulty and structure closely align with the official SAT. This approach aims to solve a common problem students face when using generic practice tools that feel disconnected from the real exam.
After completing a mock test, students receive instant results along with detailed explanations. Gemini highlights areas where the student performed well, flags weaker sections, and walks through incorrect answers step by step. It also reviews questions answered correctly by guessing, helping students understand the reasoning instead of relying on luck.
Google has emphasized that the feature is meant to support learning, not replace it. Rather than encouraging shortcuts, the system is designed to build familiarity with concepts and test strategies over time.
The SAT practice feature builds on Gemini’s existing education-focused tools, including its Guided Learning mode and integrations with products like NotebookLM, which helps users organize research and study materials. Google has also announced a collaboration that brings Gemini-powered features to Khan Academy’s Writing Coach, expanding the AI’s role in classrooms and independent study environments.
More exams are planned beyond the SAT
At launch, the SAT is the only supported exam, but Google has confirmed that additional standardized tests are already in development. The company sees this as part of a broader effort to make high-quality exam preparation more accessible, especially for students who cannot afford traditional prep programs.
Gemini is already being used to transform notes into interactive study tools, assist groups with collaborative projects, create presentations from simple prompts, and support language learning through guided exercises. With the addition of full-length mock exams, Google is positioning Gemini as an all-in-one academic assistant rather than a simple question-answer tool.
