Sony has expanded its true wireless audio lineup with the launch of the new LinkBuds Clip, a pair of open-ear earbuds built to keep users connected to their surroundings. Unlike traditional in-ear models such as the AirPods Pro or the Galaxy Buds Pro, the LinkBuds Clip avoid sealing the ear canal altogether.

Instead, Sony is leaning into a design philosophy that prioritizes awareness over isolation. The LinkBuds Clip are meant for people who want personal audio without shutting out the real world, whether that means hearing traffic during a commute, staying alert in an office, or remaining aware while moving around the city.

A clip-on design that sits outside the ear

The most noticeable change is the earbud shape itself. The LinkBuds Clip use a C-shaped clip design that rests outside the ear canal rather than inside it. This positioning allows sound to travel toward the ear while leaving ambient noise unobstructed.

Because there is no passive seal and no active noise cancellation, outside sounds such as conversations, public announcements, or approaching vehicles remain clearly audible. This makes the earbuds suitable for users who dislike the isolated feeling of conventional in-ear headphones or prefer a safer listening option for daily routines.

Sony is positioning this open-ear approach as the core identity of the LinkBuds Clip, rather than a secondary feature or transparency mode.

Tuned listening modes and audio features

To adapt the sound profile to different situations, the LinkBuds Clip offer multiple listening modes. Standard mode is designed for everyday music playback, while Voice Boost enhances speech clarity for calls and podcasts. There is also a Sound Leakage Reduction mode intended to limit how much audio escapes into the surrounding space, particularly in quieter environments.

Despite the open design, Sony has included several premium audio technologies. These include DSEE digital sound enhancement for compressed music, support for 360 Reality Audio, and a fully customizable 10-band equalizer available through the Sony Sound Connect app.

These features aim to deliver a balanced listening experience without sacrificing the situational awareness that defines the product.

Call quality and battery performance

For voice calls, Sony relies on a combination of AI-based noise reduction and bone-conduction technology. This setup is intended to capture the user’s voice more clearly while minimizing background distractions, even in busy environments.

Battery life is another area where the LinkBuds Clip stand out. Sony rates the earbuds at up to nine hours of playback on a single charge. When paired with the charging case, total listening time extends to approximately 37 hours. The earbuds also support fast charging, with a short three-minute charge providing around one hour of playback.

Built for movement and daily use

The LinkBuds Clip are designed to handle light workouts and everyday activity. With an IPX4 rating, they offer resistance against sweat and splashes, making them suitable for cardio sessions, walks, or commuting in changing weather conditions.

Sony is offering the earbuds in several color options, including Black, Greige, Green, and Lavender. Buyers can also purchase optional accessories such as protective case covers and fitting cushions for a more personalized setup.

Pricing and availability

In the United States, the Sony LinkBuds Clip are priced at $229.99. They are available through Sony’s official online store, as well as major retailers such as Best Buy and Amazon.

By focusing on an open-ear, clip-on design paired with long battery life and software-driven sound customization, Sony is clearly targeting listeners who want audio that blends seamlessly into their daily lives rather than shutting the world out.
