OnePlus has officially locked in the launch date for its next battery-focused smartphone lineup. According to a teaser shared on Weibo, the OnePlus Turbo 6 series will debut in China on January 8 at 7 p.m. local time. The announcement confirms that two models are on the way: the OnePlus Turbo 6 and the Turbo 6V.

Battery capacity is the main headline here. OnePlus says both devices will ship with a massive 9,000mAh battery, making it the largest cell the company has ever installed in a smartphone. For comparison, the OnePlus 15 uses a dual-cell configuration rated at 3,650mAh typical, which translates to around 7,300mAh. On paper, the Turbo 6 lineup represents a substantial jump in raw battery size.

A 9,000mAh phone, and that is the whole story

OnePlus is leaning heavily into battery endurance ahead of launch. The company is already sharing early usage claims based on testing carried out by New Review Technology. According to those results, the standard Turbo 6 managed 10 hours and 37 minutes of continuous use on a single charge. Under what OnePlus describes as ultra-high intensity usage, the phone reportedly lasted close to nine hours.

For more typical daily scenarios, OnePlus suggests users can expect between one and two days per charge, totaling roughly 10 hours of active screen-on time. As with any early battery claims, the specifics matter. Screen brightness, refresh rate settings, gaming workloads, and network conditions can all significantly affect real-world performance. Those details have not been fully disclosed yet, leaving some unanswered questions for power users.

What is clearer is that OnePlus has not turned the Turbo 6 series into a bulky battery brick. Early images and teasers suggest a surprisingly clean and modern design, similar to what we have already seen in previous leaks. The company appears to be balancing capacity and aesthetics rather than sacrificing one for the other.

Turbo 6 vs Turbo 6V

While both models share the same 9,000mAh battery, the differences come down to performance hardware and display specifications.

The OnePlus Turbo 6 is positioned as the more powerful option. It is confirmed to run on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. Graphics duties are handled by the Adreno 825 GPU. On the front, the phone is teased with a 1.5K resolution display featuring a 165Hz refresh rate.

The device reportedly uses a plastic frame but still manages to offer serious durability credentials, including IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. Software-wise, the Turbo 6 is expected to ship with Android 16, layered with OxygenOS 16 out of the box.

The Turbo 6V, on the other hand, appears to target a slightly different audience. It keeps the same oversized battery but swaps in a 6.8-inch 1.5K OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. Performance is expected to come from the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, which should offer solid efficiency while sitting below the flagship-tier chipset used in the Turbo 6.

What January 8 should reveal

The January 8 launch event should fill in several remaining gaps. Pricing, charging speeds, storage configurations, and official sale dates for the Chinese market are all expected to be announced. Charging performance will be especially important given the battery size, as fast charging support could significantly shape the overall user experience.

There is also the question of how OnePlus manages power consumption with high refresh rate displays and demanding hardware. Lab test numbers are one thing, but sustained real-world use will ultimately determine whether the Turbo 6 series truly earns its reputation as a battery champion.

With the Turbo 6 and Turbo 6V, OnePlus appears to be doubling down on endurance without abandoning performance or design. January 8 should provide a clearer picture of how far the company has pushed the limits this time.
