WhatsApp is pushing out a festive update just in time for New Year’s Eve, giving users new ways to make their messages and calls feel more celebratory. The latest update introduces a themed sticker pack, playful video call effects, animated reactions, and a few handy tools designed to help people stay connected as the year comes to a close.

According to a recent post on the official WhatsApp blog, the platform has added a special 2026 sticker pack created specifically for New Year celebrations. Alongside the stickers, WhatsApp is rolling out new video call effects that allow users to add visual touches like fireworks, confetti, and star animations during calls, making virtual celebrations feel a bit more lively.

The messaging app is also bringing back themed reactions for the occasion. When users react to messages with certain emojis, including the confetti emoji, they will now see animated effects appear on screen. These small visual touches are meant to make everyday chats feel more festive during one of the busiest times of the year for online communication.

WhatsApp is extending the New Year theme to its Status feature as well. Users can now share animated stickers within Status updates, complete with a 2026 inspired layout designed specifically for ringing in the new year. These additions make it easier to post quick greetings or celebratory updates without needing to create custom content from scratch.

Beyond visual upgrades, WhatsApp is also highlighting tools that can help users organize New Year plans more smoothly. The Meta owned messaging platform notes that users can create events directly within group chats, pin important details, collect RSVPs, and share updates as plans evolve. Polls can be used to decide on food, drinks, or activities, while live location sharing helps guests find their way to the venue more easily.

New Year’s Eve has long been WhatsApp’s busiest period, with millions of people sending messages and making calls around midnight. In previous years, the surge in activity has occasionally caused service interruptions, making it difficult for some users to connect at the exact moment the new year begins.

If network congestion becomes an issue again, WhatsApp’s recently introduced voicemail feature could offer a useful backup. As explained in this report, the feature allows users to leave voice or video messages after missed calls. That way, even if a call does not go through right away, New Year greetings can still reach friends and family once connectivity improves.

With visual effects, animated stickers, and practical planning tools all rolling out together, WhatsApp is clearly aiming to make digital celebrations feel more personal and engaging as users welcome 2026.
